Last May I rented a car and had one destination in mind: Monticello, or Thomas Jefferson’s house, outside Charlottesville, Virginia. I had the car for about a week and took my time getting there and back. I let the rest of my destinations find me on their own and took lots of photos along the way.

I had a couple of hours to kill before my scheduled tour of Monticello, so I stopped by Ash Lawn-Highland, or TJ’s neighbor James Monroe’s house. This is his driveway.

I took the extended tour, which went through both the main floor public areas and the private family quarters upstairs. We were only allowed to take photos inside the dome room. I strongly suggest doing an image search to check out the rest of the place.

I hear his wife made excellent beer.

The next morning, recording “The Prologue”

Washington, D.C., where all the license plates on public transportation say “Taxation Without Representation.”
